-Furcifur thinks his species is simply "Cervifae". The truth of his species is that it originated as a livestock breeder species for higher intelligence fae to hunt. His history has been erased by his (now-deceased) people, and the hunter fae that created them in the first place. The original name of his species is "Faundlings", a play on both "faun" (a class of lustful gods), and "fondling", with the suffix of -ling implying a lower, diminuitive class of creatures. (Suffice to say, he does not know this.)
-He works for the Autumn Queen, Edea. She owns his allegience and cooperation after his people tried to invade her land in the fae realm. She slaughtered all but him, and he is aware of this. His servitude involves a three-day stint of following her command on her land over Samhain, before her power dies for the year. Other times, when the moon is new, he takes on a ghastly form intending to lead humans into her court. For what, he has never asked.
-At 283 years of age, he is very young for a fae creature. His features reflect this and perhaps always will - appearing a perpetually youthful 20-something or so.

TIDBITS

Rectangle pupils Furcifur is prey-coded. His pupils reflect this; they are elongated into rectangles to give him a wider peripheral vision to see looming predators more early than someone with narrower, normal pupils would. He will startle easily and is more likely to run than investigate something straight away.

Ungulate A bi-pedal, hoofed mammal. His feet are cloven hooves that balance his weight back on a dew claw. His hooves have the same biological makeup of any ungulate; they grow and need trimming. His fingers, from about mid first/second knuckle to the tips, are a tough leathery surface similar to that of his nose.

Cervidae He does not shed his antlers, but they do velvet over in early spring. The act of de-velveting them is an intimate one, and his antlers are sensitive to touch, but can be used to defend himself.

Ancestry Though his ancestry is forced, the Autumn Court's Irish brogue has been a part of the culture since faundlings learned to speak.

PRESENTDAY

Furcifur lives in the Fae Otherworld under the servitude of Edea, Queen of Mist and Shroud, High Sidhe of the Autumn Court. He is allowed to remain in the largest building of what once was his kingdom, a crumbling cottage-castle. He does not prefer to stay here, and instead enjoys walking wherever his legs will take him. He meets many people, has many adventures, and just as many troubles.

Every Samhain, for the three days leading up to it, Furcifur is under direct orders from Edea to serve as a sort of servant for those attending the Harvest Festival in body, mind and spirit, but primarily body.

When the moon is new, his form shifts to that of a headless version of himself cloaked in a thick woolen sheet of darkness, atop which a sizeable buck's skull floats ominously. Looking into the hollow sockets of said skull for too long will induce a state of nausea, and as the eyeshine grows from the dark depths so will the ability to flee. Those who fall completely victim to his spell are coerced into seeking out Edea for whatever she has in store for them.

His purer bloodline makes it difficult for him to ignore the call of his species' origin. As a result of the purity as well, he is fertile and has the capability to breed. (But would rather not. 'Saving' his species is not a task he will ever be up to mentally or emotionally.)

NOTLONG AGO...

Led to believe his kind had descended from proud warriors, Furcifur decided in his young age (of 83) to lead his people in attempting to conquer the Autumn Queen's land and estate.

This, obviously, went very poorly, and having very little actual records of past battle strategies or wars fought and won, the prince was captured. In exchange for his servitude, Edea would allow him to live. Really a very magnanimous offer, considering she slaughtered his entire army and sent a menagerie of creatures to cull the rest of his people as well.

WHERE ITALL BEGAN...

Furcifur's species started out as a livestock/breeder species created by the fae specifically for hunting purposes. Known as Faundlings, they were named as such for the way they were created to breed quickly and keep their numbers plentiful. Faun, being a class of lustful gods, and -lings, implying a lower class of creatures.

Mainly intended to only be kept and utilized during hunting events, the species became a pest/invasive species after a few centuries because... They did what they were created to do. Just a little too well. It became less of a sport and more of a necessity to hunt these creatures only a mere two centuries after they were created. (The practice, thankfully, never became a celebrated sport.)

The numbers dwindled as hoped, but with fewer restrictions on treatment of the Faundlings it became commonplace of lesser wyldfae to breed with them. This led to an evolutionary path that made them gradually increase in intelligence, and eventually sentience - until the species were considered, under the Seelie Accords, their own people.

This process of evolution, with the aid of how rapidly the species was able to reproduce, took only about three centuries. As time progressed and the early versions of these creatures learned of their history (which was kept incredibly private from them despite their inclusion as a full fledged people (no one was exactly proud they let something like this get out of hand)) they actually did more and more to hide it from their future generations, creating instead a history that cast them in a much more favorable and positive light rather than spotlight their origins as "breeding stock for sport". It also left out various parts of them being pests, replacing that lore instead with stories of great expansion and conquest.

Not wanting to lean so far into the "faun" aspect of their origins they did their best cull their own numbers and render many males infertile in the interest of helping keep their true history silent. As a result most of the instinctual breeding urge faded into obscurity. Few of purer bloodlines may still possess the ability to breed and the stronger than average desire to do so, as evidenced in Furcifur himself.

The history and lore, now known to everyone but Furcifur himself, is the only thing that haunts him. Even in not knowing what it is, there is a unique and fragile loneliness that will creep into him on quiet evenings. Which is why he spends most of his time traveling, seeking adventures, and someone to share an evening and bed with.
